Hamilton Hill House

Location:

Hamilton Hill, Western Australia

Date:

2002

Type:

Private Residence

Clever positioning on the block plus solid limestone lower walls for a constant interior temperature, verandahs and angled windows to let in or keep out the sun at different times of the year all mean it's cool in summer and warm in winter without the need for heaters or air conditioning.

Inside the house is toxin free ‑ fitted out with recycled natural and non‑allergenic material and finishes. Western red cedar jarrah, terracotta tiles and exposed limestone add to the ambience with a mix of surfaces and textures, all finished in natural organic oils or people friendly limewash paints mixed by the builder. And there's no carpet to harbour dust to get up the nose of asthmatics. Both bathrooms are lined with natural non-allergenic rubber imported from Italy.

This is a healthy and environmentally sensitive home, designed to blend in with its urban setting while being unique.
